Charlie Thinks: 2.22.12
Last weekend was so much fun. There was so much going on I almost couldn’t make it to everything, but luckily, with a few catnaps here and there, I got to all the fun events that went on last Saturday.
I headed over to Loma in the morning to check out the sheep shear- ing day at the Sale Barn. Wow…I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many terrified sheep, at least they looked terrified from another animal’s perspective. Most didn’t seem to care too much about being shaved bald so fast, but I think it’s just because they didn’t know what was going on until after it was already done. It was really fun to watch, though, and I hope they have an event like this again, or maybe not. They might see my gorgeous shiny fur coat and think they could make a pair of socks out of it. On second thought, I think I’ll send someone else next year.
After that, I geared up for the Sweetheart 5k at the Fruita Community Center. I did some stretches (ones I saw my competition doing), and I have to say, I’m much more flexible than humans. Not that it helped much. Someone made the route for the run right next to houses that had a lot of dogs, and, while I can’t prove anything, I think it was a conspiracy by the winner to throw me off my game so I wouldn’t win. Needless to say, I hid under a bush for most of the race, took a nap, and finished later after all the dogs thought we were all gone. It was a fun race, and luckily they were having the health expo inside the Community Center, because I must have napped in a thorn bush and the nice people from Family Health West helped me get them all out of my fur. After a much needed snooze, I got all dressed up and went over to the Annual Chamber Banquet. I still refused to put on a poodle skirt, but I looked nice. There were so many members there, it was great. I had a nice dinner, schmoozed a little bit, put in some bids on amazing silent auction items and, later in the night, got crazy on the dance floor. I think everyone there was surprised that I was such a good dancer. It was a re- ally fun night and I’m already ready for next year!
I’ll be away next weekend at the Colorado Press Association’s Annual Convention, so everyone wish us luck on our awards. We know we won a couple, but not which place it is yet. There are so many great newspaper people there and it’s fun every year. I’m sure I’ll come back with some great ideas to make the paper better and better, just like we do every year. I’ll let everyone know next week how it all went! Have a great week, Fruita and I’ll see you next time!
