City sales tax collected on the rise again
That gain came on top of a 13.5 percent increase over the previous year in January.
In February, 2011 the city of Fruita collected $95,295.
“I think it’s great,’”said Fruita Chamber of Commerce Director Leanne Ingwersen. “The restaurants are doing well, the hotels, everybody is.”
Lodging taxes assessed on the sales of hotel rooms also increased in February, a change from the recent trend of not bouncing back until March.
In February, receipts from lodging taxes were $5,076, an increase of nearly 37 percent over the $3,706 collected in February last year.
Ingwersen said she attributes the hike to the unseasonably warm and dry weather during February.
“People are getting out early,’’ she said.
