The kids are all right by me
Really enjoyed seeing newly elected Mayor Lori Buck on the front page, really a good story about local girl being elected mayor of her own hometown. Something for the town and Lori to be very proud about. The Fruita Times will certainly strive to give her fair coverage and invites her to submit a column or weekly report to voters when ever she wishes.
Enjoyed watching my grandson, Sean Dorrance, play in the Mesa State University spring football game Saturday morning at Suplizio Stadium. I was a good friend of now deceased Sam Suplizio who was so responsible for baseball in Grand Junction and the famed JOCO tournaments. Sam was also a leader in bringing big league baseball to Denver. Enjoyed sitting in his seats on a few occasions. He was a dear friend to many folks in Mesa County and Colorado. My freshman grandson played the entire game as a linebacker and appears to be headed for the varsity team next year as a sophomore. He was a linebacker for State Champion Elizabeth Cardinals as a high school student. Broke the school record in the shot put and received a football scholarship at Mesa.
With new head coach Russ Martin, the team is recruiting aggressively and practicing very hard to have a successful upcoming season.
I’ll be watching many games.
