Nightingale’s Marks 7 Years Caring For Seniors
Nightingale’s Care of Grand Junction has been providing non-medical home care to Fruita’s seniors and veterans for seven years.
Owner Janet Walker started her business with one employee and now has 30 home care assistants covering the Grand Valley. Nightingale’s Care is a member of Home Care Association of Colorado and National Association for Home Care and Hospice. Walker is married to Keith and they have one daughter, Sonia.
Services include assistance with activities of daily living, grooming, mobility, etc. for seniors, adults, veterans and children. Nightingale’s Care visits can be daily or weekly, evenings and weekends as needed, as well as 24/7. Seniors, new parents, and those recuperating from surgery or illness have all benefited from their services.
Walker is very passionate about the services she provides. The company’s mission is the belief in honoring the customer’s wishes and providing excellent customer service. A one-on-one experience allows the Home Care Assistant to get to know each individual’s needs and routines.
“Quality care is the key to our success. Every one of our caregivers is passionate about giving quality care,” Walker said. “They are carefully screened and monitored.”
She added that most employees come to them seeking employment because they want to be a part in helping others.
Nightingale’s also works with the local VA Hospital to assist veterans. The veteran would work through his or her doctor and social worker to gain approval through the Veterans Administration. They would then be authorized for non-institutional home care. The VA then reimburses Nightingale’s Care and the veteran never sees the bill. This benefit is not widely known and Walker works through contacts at the VA to help those veterans that may qualify for this service.
Walker feels strongly that most people desire to stay home in their own surrounding rather than be put in a home or institution. Her company provides this opportunity to so many.
“I started Nightingale’s Care because I saw that people recover quicker, are happiest, and thrive in a familiar environment—their own homes.” She went on to say everyone should have the option to age in place.
“Home care allows the customer to stay in control of their own life, she said. “Their routines and homes remain theirs, while maintaining independence and a consistent quality of life.
