A Fruita man was killed Saturday, Sept. 8, when the vehicle he was driving rolled off Interstate 70 near mile marker 34 in Clifton.
Thirty-four year old Fortunato Diaz-Alejandro was driving a 2002 black Ford pickup westbound on I-70 when he veered off the left side of the road around 10 p.m.
The vehicle rotated clockwise across I-70 when it went off the right side of the highway.
Diaz-Alejandro was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. He was pinned underneath the vehicle.
Lifesaving efforts provided on scene were unsuccessful.
Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado State Patrol, and the Clifton Fire Department responded to the scene.
The accidental death was caused by multiple blunt-force injuries.
It did not appear Diaz-Alejandro was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
He also had a blood alcohol level of 0.216.
