Shelledy kids read a lot, make principal kiss snake
School’s literacy enthusiasm shows it is ‘Wild About Reading’
The students of Shelledy Elementary School read books at home for a collective total of more than 75,000 minutes in order to send their principal Steve States on a wild adventure of kissing a snake.
The tremendous effort is a part of the school’s “Wild About Reading” program sponsored by Grand Valley Zoological Quest. Principal States agreed to the slithery creature at the Fruita Fall Festival in front of a crowd if his students read more than 50,000 minutes outside of class by Sept. 29. The kids had less than three weeks to meet the challenge.
