Fruita Chamber names new director
By Tim Merris -
The Fruita Chamber of Commerce appointed Interim Director Shauna Davies to the permanent director position. After six months of evaluating the position and Davies, the nine-member board unanimously voted to promote Davies.
Davies, born and raised in the Grand Valley and a graduate of Central High School, takes over the position after serving six months as temporary director. She has been employed by the Chamber for nearly seven years. She brings experience, knowledge and respectability to the position.
Davies has two daughters, Amy and Kady, and two grandchildren, Ashlyn and Trey.
Davies stated, “I’m very excited that the Board selected me as director. I love my job and I love the Fruita Chamber and love what I do.”
She said her immediate goals are to increase memberships and work to retain current members. The membership has declined over the last year mainly due to the economy but also the turnover in the directorship. She plans to build the membership back up to 400 by the end of 2013 by instilling confidence in the members that the Chamber is working hard for their best interest. She’ll be putting in place new ideas she learned at a recent conference to bring in new members as well.
When asked why the Chamber Board took so long to make this decision, she said, “The Board went through this before and the results were less than expected so they just wanted to make sure.” She had turned down the position in 2010 for personal reasons and she believed the board wanted to make sure she really wanted it this time. As interim director, she dug her heals in and raised the Chamber back up to respectability and not only proved she wanted the job but proved she was the best person to do it. No other candidates were considered.
Davies said the staff will remain intact and they will strive to work as a team and rely on the help of the many volunteers that give of their time to the Chamber.
Davies’ hobbies include spending time at Lake Powell fishing and camping. She also loves to go dancing and spend quality time with her family and friends.
